PEMS Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA)
Working Group

What is an EPA?

EPAs represent a modern, competency-based approach to medical education. They define essential clinical tasks that can progressively be entrusted to physicians in training once they demonstrate sufficient autonomy, safety, and professionalism.

Objectives

The main goal of the PEMS EPA Working Group is to develop EPAs that are relevant, practical, and actionable for pediatric emergency care in Switzerland.

The specific objectives of the EPAs are to:

  1. Define key clinical activities in pediatric emergency medicine.

  2. Support progressive levels of trainee autonomy.

  3. Provide a practical, workplace-based assessment tool for evaluating real clinical tasks.

  4. Ensure patient safety throughout the educational process.

  5. Facilitate concrete and meaningful feedback for trainees.

  6. Promote a shared educational culture across Swiss centers.

Who are we?

The working group brings together experts from multiple Swiss hospitals and academic institutions. The group’s linguistic, institutional, and academic diversity supports a coherent national approach while respecting regional specificities.
